Another top-tier company recently opted to move into Cheyenne real estate, taking advantage of Wyoming's favorable business tax structure.  Uranium producer Cameco Resources recently settled into the remodeled sixth floor of the Wyoming Financial Center.

The move streamlines logistics for the international company.  The strategic location of Cheyenne Wyoming real estate allows Cameco proximity to future planned mining expansion as well as state regulators.  They were previously headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado.

Cameco Resources will bring 17 existing positions and employees to Cheyenne homes.  In addition, the company will be hiring up to forty percent of employees locally.  Cameco also employs 1165 people in its Wyoming mine and 69 in Nebraska.  Cameco Resources and its employees endeavor to become active, supportive members of the state and community.  Cameco supports organizations that protect natural resources, educates children in math and science, and make communities great places to raise families.

Cameco Resources is the U.S. division of one of the world's largest uranium producers.  It is a subsidiary of Cameco Corporation, which is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.  The company owns the only operating uranium mine in Wyoming, Smith Ranch-Highland in-situ uranium mine near Glenrock.  It also owns the Crow Butte in-situ uranium mine near Crawford, Nebraska.  The Highland mine was acquired in 1997 and the Smith ranch mine in 2002.  It acquired full ownership of Crow Butte in 2000.

These facilities are critical to Cameco's supply portfolio.  The nation imports 90 percent of the uranium needed to fuel its 104 operating nuclear power plants.  Smith Ranch-Highland is the largest producing uranium mine in the United States.   Cameco Resources supplies uranium for the production of clean electricity.

Cheyenne LEADS, a member-supported non-profit corporation, worked with Cameco Resources for over a year, assisting in the transition.  Cameco officials toured the City in September 2009.  Architects Tobin & Associates headed up the remodel.  In January, Richardson Construction began the renovation of the Wyoming Financial Center to serve the needs of Cameco's leased headquarters.

Serving as the Economic Development branch for the City of Cheyenne and Laramie County, Cheyenne LEADS is devoted to bringing jobs and economic opportunity to the area.
