The Cheyenne Symphony performs five concerts each season in the at the Cheyenne Civic Center auditorium adjacent to historic downtown Cheyenne real estate. The address is at 1904 Thomes Avenue, Cheyenne Wyoming 82001. In addition, the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra presents five intimately scaled Hausmusik concerts at the lovely Cheyenne homes of select season members and at various historic sites in the area.
Residents and guests of homes in Cheyenne who step out for an early evening with the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra may also reserve a table at one of our fine restaurants. On the other hand, many concertgoers forgo that European-style elegance. These prefer to join CSO Conductor Dr. William Intriligator at the Laramie County Library for his popular Tuna Fish and Peanut Butter Classic Conversations events held at noon on the day of each concert. Attendees bring brown-bag lunches and enjoy this free opportunity to participate in in-depth discussions with the conductor and occasional musical artists.
Another exciting opportunity offered by the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra happens directly before each performance. Dr. Intriligator teaches about each composer’s life and about the musical selections on the night’s schedules. For example, on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra performs “Handel’s Messiah.” One of the best known of Handel’s works, Handel completed this masterpiece in 1742. This particular performance is free for the community, a gift of the Eleni Demos Robinson Endowment. No tickets are required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Intriligator’s lively introduction addresses the man and his composition.
The Cheyenne Symphony Society (CSS) provides cultural outreach with a four-pronged educational program called Gift of Music, annually reaching over 7,000 youth and adults. Guest artists visit schools and orchestra members offer residency programs. CSS encourages visual arts with an art contest rewarding students with attendance at select concerts. Also, Cheyenne Youth Symphony promotes orchestral participation by the younger generation.
