The Cheyenne Frontier DaysTM Rodeo is still the biggest and the best rodeo in the west or anywhere. The city gained that reputation almost a century ago in 1919. Owning a ranch home in Cheyenne, you'll be part of a tradition. In the days when cowboys and cattle spent long periods of time out on the open range—expansive territories used for cattle grazing—they'd head back to their
ranches in Wyoming and may get together for some causal bucking-horse competition. In 1897, the event got more organized and advertized itself as the "Daddy of 'em All." Today, the thrilling program packs in the crowds to watch daring and accomplished rodeo lovers riding bucking bulls for at least eight seconds while the beasts spin and jerk 2,000-pound frames to and fro. The very popular, heart-pounding event is considered the most dangerous on the program.

Also known for its family events, the rodeo plays the crowd from all angles. Downtown, a joyous parade route is lined with sun-kissed cheeks and colorful summer attire. Who wouldn't be smiling after a free Pancake Breakfast? Then, the United States Air Force Thunderbirds thrill the audience with unfathomable aerial acrobatics as they zoom through the skies overhead. This is the 55th year of the Thunderbirds demonstration.
No rodeo would be complete these days without a tribute to the Native Americans. A colorful village featuring the rhythm of ceremonial drums and introduces their historic culture. Western artisans at Wild Horse Gulch and the world-class western art show at the Old Western Museum afford a historical perspective of the rodeo.
From games and food to music and rides, children of all ages go back and forth from noon to midnight at the Carnival Midway on Frontier Park. After the sun sets, some of the biggest entertainers available are featured as Frontier Night performers.
