Set in the foothills of the Laramie Mountains about 25 miles west of Cheyenne Wyoming homes, Curt Gowdy State Park offers excellent fishing, fly-fishing, camping, other recreation, and an historic lodge for events.It is easily accessible from the hub of Cheyenne WY real estate at Interstates 80 and 25 by taking Happy Jack Road (Highway 210)to County Road 106. Curt Gowdy State Park is 25 miles east of homes in Laramie.
Residents of Cheyenne and Laramie homes enjoy the quiet local fishing spot. Curt Gowdy State Park features three reservoirs: Granite, Crystal, and North Crow.
Granite Reservoir is the largest of the lakes, providing plenty of space for fishing and water sports. It is known for its wonderful rainbow trout and kokanee salmon.Crystal Reservoir features great shoreline fishing and boat fishing with a 15-miles-per-hour speed limit. Fishers catch brown trout, rainbow trout, and kokanee salmon at the Crystal Reservoir. North Crow Reservoir is an unimproved, natural fishing area located five miles west of the Headquarters Building. It is for day use only.
Curt Gowdy State Park offers 150 total camping sites at its Tumbleweed, Camp Russell, and Aspen Grove campgrounds. Next to Aspen Grove, there is a free public horse corral for horse camping.
According to wyomingtourism.org, “Surrounding the reservoirs are hills that invite the hiker, the rock hound and the ski tourer in winter.” In addition to the previously mentioned recreation, Curt Gowdy State Park is a great place to ride mountain bikes. The International Mountain Bicycling Association recently named its trail system as an “Epic” standard. Laramie Mountain foothills offer seven stunningly beautiful landscapes with a wealth of flora and fauna, rocky soils, timbered slopes, and granite towers.
Listed on the National Historic Register, Hynds Lodge and its amphitheater offer a pastoral setting for events in one of the low-lying meadows, abundant with wildlife and non-native birds. It is open to large and small groups by reservation. The Lodge features a covered porch, large kitchen, dining area, recreation area, and sleeping. The amphitheater is used for cultural activities such as concerts and theater productions. It is open early May to October 1. Annual reservations start for the following year in early October.
The Park is named for native Wyomingite and noted sportscaster Curt Gowdy.
